Good news for couples marrying in Queensland

Marriage Celebrants in Queensland have had confirmation from the AFCC (Australian Federation of Civil Celebrants) that Birth, Deaths and Marriages will accept official marriage celebrants as qualified witness to certify copies of identification to support a marriage certificate application sent in with the marriage papers. This will make the process a little easier for the couple as previously they had to go to a JP to certify their ID.

  • Applicants for the marriage certificate must be either the bride/groom
  • Applicant for the marriage certificate must be signed by either bride or groom
  • 3 forms of ID is required by the signee
  • 3 forms of ID must be included in the application
  • Celebrants signs as ‘Authorised Marriage Celebrant’ print name, celebrant number, date and sign

There are so many beautiful locations to have your wedding ceremony here on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. I am fortunate to live in Caloundra and I do love the settings we have locally. However,  Noosa is also a favourite spot. I recently officiated the marriage between Chris and Eliza  at Hidden Grove on Noosa’s Main Beach, close to Hastings St. It was a stunning setting overlooking the bay. The couple carefully thought through their day having an early beach wedding at 10am before it got too hot, having young children this certainly suited them. They also decided to have the ceremony on a Friday which meant less crowds.

It  was a lovely ceremony and the Bride and Groom were very happy as they said it all ‘flowed beautifully’ and went ‘according to plan’. I am very lucky to have such a wonderful job and share these special moments.

Commitment Ceremony on the Sunshine Coast

In our lives today many people both young and old travel and work overseas. So often couples meet and fall in love whilst they are away from their home country. The decision of where to have the wedding is often a dilemma when families live so far away.

Travelling overseas for a wedding can often be too difficult for family members. An alternative can be a Commitment Ceremony to ensure the family participate in the sharing of vows and a ceremony to remember.

As a civil celebrant on the Sunshine Coast a few weeks ago I was fortunate to meet Jennifer and Greg who live in the US. Jennifer is from South Carolina whilst Greg is originally from Queensland. Greg has elderly parents and a sister with a baby due in the next few months, therefore travel for the family was not going to be possible. Hence, they decided whilst on a visit over here on a Commitment Ceremony at a stunning penthouse apartment in Currimundi, only minutes away from Caloundra. The apartment was an ideal spot overlooking both the lake and the ocean. With temperatures high in the summer months it meant we could have the ceremony out of the hot sun! The family also got to enjoy a lovely holiday together in a perfect location.

It was very much like a wedding ceremony with just a few changes in wording. The couple were keen to share their story of how they met and fell in love. As well as how they see their life together in the future. They exchanged rings and vows and it was truly a beautiful affair. They also signed a commitment certificate and took some lovely photos as we can see here. They decided to include the rituals of a sand ceremony to symbolise their union as a family where they each took a handful of sand and placed it in a vase, representing their lives being joined together as one. The ceremony meant so much to the family and I felt honoured to be part of their special day.

Last Sunday was the Caloundra Collectives second Wedding Fair. This was a wonderful opportunity for couples to come and visit a number of venues in Caloundra, Golden Beach as well as the Golf Club at Pelican Waters, to look for the perfect location for their Wedding Day. There were also Wedding Suppliers from the local area.   I had the privilege of setting up my table at the Power Boat Club and met some lovely couples and had the opportunity to go through my services as a Marriage Celebrant. Also at the Power Boat Club was Shellbells Photography who took some marvellous photos of the day, see below.

If you are intending to get married in the near future and missed the wonderful Wedding Fair here are some photos including the Power Boat Club that has both outdoor and indoor setups and the Oats Oasis Resort. Of course there are also some great beach set ups if you are looking to have a beautiful beach setting.
