Commitment Ceremony on the Sunshine Coast

In our lives today many people both young and old travel and work overseas. So often couples meet and fall in love whilst they are away from their home country. The decision of where to have the wedding is often a dilemma when families live so far away.

Travelling overseas for a wedding can often be too difficult for family members. An alternative can be a Commitment Ceremony to ensure the family participate in the sharing of vows and a ceremony to remember.

As a civil celebrant on the Sunshine Coast a few weeks ago I was fortunate to meet Jennifer and Greg who live in the US. Jennifer is from South Carolina whilst Greg is originally from Queensland. Greg has elderly parents and a sister with a baby due in the next few months, therefore travel for the family was not going to be possible. Hence, they decided whilst on a visit over here on a Commitment Ceremony at a stunning penthouse apartment in Currimundi, only minutes away from Caloundra. The apartment was an ideal spot overlooking both the lake and the ocean. With temperatures high in the summer months it meant we could have the ceremony out of the hot sun! The family also got to enjoy a lovely holiday together in a perfect location.

It was very much like a wedding ceremony with just a few changes in wording. The couple were keen to share their story of how they met and fell in love. As well as how they see their life together in the future. They exchanged rings and vows and it was truly a beautiful affair. They also signed a commitment certificate and took some lovely photos as we can see here. They decided to include the rituals of a sand ceremony to symbolise their union as a family where they each took a handful of sand and placed it in a vase, representing their lives being joined together as one. The ceremony meant so much to the family and I felt honoured to be part of their special day.

Last Sunday was the Caloundra Collectives second Wedding Fair. This was a wonderful opportunity for couples to come and visit a number of venues in Caloundra, Golden Beach as well as the Golf Club at Pelican Waters, to look for the perfect location for their Wedding Day. There were also Wedding Suppliers from the local area.   I had the privilege of setting up my table at the Power Boat Club and met some lovely couples and had the opportunity to go through my services as a Marriage Celebrant. Also at the Power Boat Club was Shellbells Photography who took some marvellous photos of the day, see below.

If you are intending to get married in the near future and missed the wonderful Wedding Fair here are some photos including the Power Boat Club that has both outdoor and indoor setups and the Oats Oasis Resort. Of course there are also some great beach set ups if you are looking to have a beautiful beach setting.

We are fortunate in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast to have so many beautiful spots for Wedding Ceremonies. If you are looking for a beach wedding there are some lovely locations particularly at Kings Beach, voted one of the top beaches in Queensland.

While it is very special to be on the beach surrounded by the sound of the sea not everyone is happy to negotiate with the sun and sand particularly in high heels! Consequently, you may prefer the stunning headlands at Dicky Beach, one of my favourite spot’s is Sir Leslie Wilson Park and mesmerising, Moffat Beach. There are plenty of shady trees and gorgeous views that make these places such a romantic setting.

A few tips

Please ensure you book these locations with the council as they will be popular particularly in the Spring and Autumn months.

However, the weather is a factor and on a pleasant and still day these places can be perfect. But it is advisable, so that you are not disappointed, to have a wet weather alternative. There are many venues on the coast at Golden Beach, Bulcock beach as well as Golf clubs in Caloundra and Pelican waters that will have a sheltered spot still with a lovely setting.

Whatever the location or venue, as a wedding celebrant on the sunshine coast, I enjoy meeting every new couple and together ensure we create the ceremony that is special to you.

Please call me on 0408 190 307 to discuss your plans.

I’m very pleased with my car signage. A bit pink but lots of compliments. I can’t be missed now and no worries about not finding it in a big carpark. Another great way for future Brides and Grooms to find me on the Sunshine Coast.
